in transit: random acts of kindness

In Transit: Random Acts of Kindness, created for Inner West’s place making festival Edge Newtown 2019, was an interactive art installation exploring how we live and travel through our urban environment.

In this project we explored experiences travelling through our urban environment. Whilst on public transport people may feel isolated, alone and disconnected from others around them, a lived experience articulated by the artists involved. The concept of the project was to create a welcoming and safe feeling for everyone through a joyful exchange of ‘gifts of kindness’. We encouraged our audience to create a simple paper crafted brooch and write a kind message on the back. We then invited them to step into the Roomies cardboard city that we created and exchange this brooch with another person using our kinetic public transport system.
